About HAWS

Haws, founded in 1909, offers various emergency response solutions for the chemical processing, refining, healthcare and research & development industries. It offers mixing valves, bottle fillers, drinking fountains, eyewash stations, drench showers, electric water coolers, touchless hydration solutions and replacement parts.
Haws emergency mixing valves provide safe fluid supply from thermostatically mixed hot & cold water for use in emergency showers and eyewash equipment. They contain a high-temperature limit valve for additional protection in case of main tempering valve malfunction and cold water by-pass valves to ensure a fail-safe water supply in case of hot water pressure loss.
The brand's emergency showers can be floor / wall / ceiling mount and are ideal for cleansing & quick drenching the users upon exposure to corrosive & potentially hazardous materials. These emergency showers feature stainless steel / plastic shower head & handle for durable operation in adverse conditions. Selected models have a hydrodynamic shower design to distribute fluid flow evenly across the shower head for effective cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are portable eyewashes?

Portable eyewashes are used in locations having no access to potable water. These self-contained emergency eyewash units are suitable for applications that require eyewash access at multiple locations. They contain a reservoir of flushing fluid for a continuous 15-minute flow. Haws portable eyewashes come in two forms, gravity-fed eyewashes & air-pressurised eyewashes.

What are the points to be remembered while installing emergency shower & eyewash stations?

  • Shower & eyewash stations should be installed in a well-lit location, marked with a highly visible sign.
  • They must be located within 10 seconds travel time from the hazard-prone application and adjacent to hazards related to strong acids or caustics.
  • The path towards these stations must be free of any obstruction and on the same plane / level to prevent accidents & save time.
  • The units should start water / fluid supply within a short period after actuation. They should supply water having tepid temperatures ranging from 16 to 38 degrees C (60 to 100 degrees F).
  • These emergency equipment should be fully inspected periodically according to local safety standards & guidelines.

What steps should workers follow if they are exposed to hazardous chemicals?

  • In case of exposure to the eyes, use an eyewash station for a minimum of 15 minutes and flush away the chemicals / impurities from the eyes. Workers should keep their eyes wide open while rotating them in all directions for removing contaminants thoroughly.
  • In case of skin exposure, use a drench shower / emergency shower unit for a minimum of 15 minutes and thoroughly wash the exposed body part using a large quantity of water. Workers should remove contaminated clothing, jewellery and shoes for a thorough cleaning.
  • Emergency shower or eyewash should be used immediately after exposure to hazardous chemicals or irritants. Delayed use / washing may cause irreparable tissue or eye damage.

Why should tepid water be used in emergency shower/eyewash equipment?

Haws emergency shower / eyewash equipment provides water at the right temperature for a comfortable flushing environment that encourages affected workers to flush away the harmful chemical / impurities for the required time.
