About NIBCO

NIBCO Valves extensive catalogue includes metal fittings, valves, actuators, industrial plastics, pipe hangers, piping systems and seismic bracing equipment. NIBCO butterfly valves are designed to regulate, control and throttle flow. These quarter-turn rotational valves feature cast iron construction with a corrosion-resistant polyamide coating to withstand a maximum pressure of 200 psi and have an extended neck to allow insulation up to 2 inches. They have an internal stem / disc splined drive mechanism to isolate or regulate the flow of liquids. NIBCO offers copper fittings for a leak-tight connection which resists corrosion and scaling in drinking water, air conditioning and refrigeration. These reducing adapters feature a solder cup and female NPT threads for adapting a solder connection to a threaded connection. Choose from a wide range of fittings, available in a maximum pressure rating of 912 psi at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, on Raptor Supplies.

Things To Consider

Cross-Reference Alternatives

NIBCO valves' MPNs (manufacturer's part numbers) generally cross individual reference to the equivalent Dixon model numbers. So, if you're looking for a competitor valve that is either out of stock or obsolete, chances are Raptor Supplies has the equivalent NIBCO valves available.

Shipping

These NIBCO valves are small in size and require compact packaging. Hence, they are delivered in packs consisting of several pieces. These NIBCO valves are suitable for courier shipment and not air freight.

NIBCO Competitive Advantages

NIB-SEAL Insulated Handle System

NIB-SEAL, a patented insulated handle system, is used in NIBCO two-piece and three-piece bronze ball valves to prevent moisture from entering / exiting through them. This non-conductive CPVC NIB-SEAL handle has a unique thermal barrier design to prevent loss of thermal energy as in exposed metal handles. They also provide a clearly visible indicator to show the open or closed position of the NIBCO valves from a distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between one-piece, two-piece & three-piece ball valves?

  • A one-piece ball valve uses a reduced port ball and has a leak-free design. However, it is non-repairable and must be replaced once failed.
  • Two-piece ball valves have a lower cost of manufacturing and are available in full port and conventional port variants. These valves are non-repairable and must be replaced once failed.
  • A three-piece ball valve, on the other hand, offers in-line repairability and can be disassembled. However, they are costlier than their one-piece & two-piece variants.

How can users choose between a gate, globe, check, ball or butterfly valve?

  • A gate valve are used in either the completely open or completely closed position as it cannot partially interrupt / stop the flow of a moving fluid (called throttling).
  • A globe valve offers a compression seal to allow throttling between the open and closed position when the stem is turned.
  • A check valve operates automatically based on the pressure of the flow. NIBCO check valves also prevent backflow.
  • A ball valve is cheaper than gate & globe valves but works similarly. It also features a quarter-turn handle that indicates whether the valve is open or closed.
  • A butterfly valve is lighter in weight and takes up very little space in the line. It is used in similar applications as the gate and globe valves. This valve also has throttling capabilities and resilient sealing.

What are the advantages & disadvantages of a multi-turn valve over a quarter-turn valve?

The quarter-turn valves are used for quick arresting of the flow. However, they may damage the piping system due to water hammer or shock when the valves are closed too quickly. The multi-turn valves close slowly with multiple turns of gear / wheel, thereby eliminating the water hammer.

How do fittings made of cast copper differ from those made of wrot copper?

The choice of the process used in copper fitting formation is based on their difficulty and cost-effectiveness. For example, a drop ear elbow is made by casting process as it is difficult to form using the wrot process. Whereas, fittings such as a 90 degree elbow can be formed using the wrot copper.

What standards / certifications do Nibco valves abide by?

NIBCO is ISO 9001:2015 certified, maintaining superior quality while manufacturing valves. Selected NIBCO valves are also UL listed for user safety and sustainability and NSF / ANSI 61 certified to provide clean drinking water.
