AQUASOL WELDING SoluGap Water Soluble Socket Weld Spacer Rings

Aquasol SoluGap spacer rings are used to eliminate the cracked welds in the pharmaceutical, aeronautical, food processing and nuclear industries. They are welding accessories suitable to create a gap or spacing between two pieces of a pipe during socket welding.

Working Mechanism

  • Align the outer edge of the position ring with the inner circumference of the pipe.
  • Slide the ring inside the pipe, ensuring that the tabbed edges fit snugly and snap in place to maintain the 1/16 inch or larger gap while avoiding compression.
  • Once the ring is secured inside the pipe, it will remain in place, even when the socket is sideways or inverted.
  • Tack weld the ring 3 or 4 times while maintaining the proper interpass temperature specified by ASME B31.3 or a welding engineer.
  • After the first tack, square up the pipe and proceed to weld without exceeding the interpass temperature.
  • To remove the ring, introduce hot / cold water to dissolve it and remove its entire contents, leaving no residue in the pipe.
  • Alternatively, leave the spacer in the pipe.

Features

  • These SoluGap rings are made of eco-friendly CE and EPA-approved water-soluble paper that dissolves rapidly and provides marine-grade corrosion resistance, eliminating the need to inventory multiple grades of metal spacers and saving the time of scribing, measuring and fitting.
  • They offer a consistent minimum gap of 1/16 inches and are available in 1/8 inch thickness.
  • These spacers feature 3-point tabs to ensure secure placement regardless of the orientation of the pipe and come with a hollow centre for easy viewing during welding.

Standards and Approvals

  • ANSI
  • ASME

Frequently Asked Questions

How to install these rings?

  • Position the ring by aligning the outer edge with the inner pipe circumference.
  • Slide the ring inside the pipe to fit tabbed edges, maintaining a gap of 1/16 inches or larger.

How to remove these rings after welding?

Aquasol rings dissolve automatically on the application of an aqueous solution.

What is the temperature rating of these rings?

Aquasol socket weld spacer rings have a temperature rating of 400 degrees F.

How to use Aquasol SoluGap spacer rings?

  • Clean the pipe ends and remove any debris or oil.
  • Insert the SoluGap ring between the pipe ends, ensuring that it is centred and the proper size for the pipe diameter.
  • Weld the pipe ends together as usual, being careful not to disturb the ring.
  • Once the weld has cooled, immerse the joint in water to dissolve the SoluGap ring.
  • Rinse the joint with clean water to remove any residue.

How do I install these rings?

  • Position the ring by aligning the outer edge with the inner pipe circumference.
  • Slide the ring inside the pipe to fit tabbed edges, maintaining a gap of 1/16 inches or larger.

How to prevent these rings from charring?

Do not exceed the interpass temperature of 300 degrees F and follow the proper ASME B31.3 code welding procedure to prevent it from charring while welding.

How to remove these rings after welding?

These rings dissolve automatically on applying an aqueous solution.
