Working Mechanism

  • Circuit breakers get triggered when faulty current flows through the system.
  • The trip coil of the breaker gets energised and moves away from each other, thus opening the circuit.

  • Eaton CHND-Series moulded case circuit breakers have an interrupt rating of 65kAIC at 480V.
  • They have LS / LSIG / LSIA trips to interrupt the supply during overloads.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are circuit breakers better than fuses?

Circuit breakers can be easily reset after they trip due to a fault, making them reusable units. Fuses, on the other hand, break once they detect overload and cannot be used more than once.

Can humidity trip a breaker?

When moisture corrodes wiring and other electrical contacts, short-circuit occurs. Humidity causes a current increase in the circuit, which trips the circuit breaker.

How is a circuit breaker different from a switch?

A switch opens and closes the circuit in normal operation, while a circuit breaker opens or closes the circuit during faulty currents.
