Working Mechanism

  • These GHC Series moulded case circuit breakers include both fixed thermal and magnetic trips.

  • Fixed Thermal Trips:

    • Fixed thermal trips are based on the heat generated by the current passing through the circuit.
    • The trip unit has a bimetallic strip that is temperature-sensitive.
    • As the current increases, the bimetallic strip heats up and bends, triggering the breaker to trip.

    Fixed Magnetic Trips:

    • Fixed magnetic trips make use of the magnetic field's strength produced by the circuit's current flow.
    • The trip unit contains an electromagnet sensitive to changes in magnetic field strength.
    • When the magnetic field intensity reaches a certain threshold, it causes the breaker to trip as the current increases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an MCCB and an MCB?

An MCCB is a larger and more robust circuit breaker than an MCB. MCCBs are used for higher current ratings and more demanding applications, while MCBs are used for lower current ratings and simpler applications.

What is the difference between a circuit breaker and a fuse?

A circuit breaker is a switch-like device that interrupts the flow of current in an electrical circuit when an overload or short circuit is detected. A fuse, on the other hand, is a protective device that melts or blows when the current exceeds a certain level.

How do I maintain an MCCB?

MCCBs maintenance includes cleaning, inspecting, testing and calibrating them and their components.
