EATON XTCC Series Contactors

Eaton XTCC Series contactors are designed for controlling and switching electrical circuits. They are used in applications where switching of large currents and / or voltages is needed, like in industrial motor control systems, HVAC devices and power distribution systems. These units come with ...an IP20 enclosure, offering high resistance to dust, moisture and vibrations. They are frequently combined with additional control devices, including timers, relays and control circuit transformers, that help to create comprehensive control systems.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • These contactors work by using an electromagnet to open and close a set of normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contacts.
  • When energised, this electromagnet creates a magnetic field that attracts a movable armature, which in turn causes the contacts to close and let the current flow freely.
  • When the electromagnet is de-energised, the electric field collapses and the armature is returned to its original position, causing the contacts to open and stop the current flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are screw terminals used on contactors?

Screw terminals are used for connecting electrical wires to a contactor. They are easy to install / remove by simply tightening or loosening the terminal screws. They provide a secure connection between the wire and the contactor by clamping the wire firmly in place and preventing damage due to vibration and mechanical stress.

How do I size a contactor for a specific operation?

Users can determine the size of the connector by the current and voltage rating of the load. Therefore, it is important to select a contactor with a current rating equal to or greater than the full-load current of the motor or other load and with a voltage rating that matches the voltage of the power source.

What is the difference between a contactor and a relay?

A contactor is a device that controls motors and other high-current loads, while a relay is an electrically operated switch that is suitable for general switching applications.
