LEESON DC Motors, TENV/TEFC, Square Flange Or C Face

Leeson general purpose DC motors offer a high & constant starting torque, making them suitable for use when the load is not altered by the speed. They are designed for mechanical loads or hard-to-start applications in hoists, conveyor belts, positive displacement pumps & mixers.

Working Mechanism

  • The brake motors use an electromagnetic field for powering the motor and braking.
  • They function by pushing a magnetic pole rotor through the applied current.
  • Surrounding the rotor, the poles of the stator apply the force to turn the shaft.
  • When a static AC or DC is injected into the unit, the poles of the stator become static and stop the rotor.

Features

  • Leeson general purpose DC motors have a C-Face or square-flange design with a removable bolt-on base for convenient installation.
  • They are equipped with a TENV / TEFC enclosure to keep the motor windings clean, cool and dry.
  • These units are capable of dynamic braking and offer permanently lubricated sealed bearings to handle heavy axial and radial loads.
  • They are available in Class H and F insulation types to withstand temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius.
  • The supplied oversized brushes assure long life and are easily accessible due to the brush holder design.
  • These motors produce torque up to 1/4 hp and continuous duty operation with speeds up to 3500 rpm.

Standards and Approvals

  • NEMA
  • UL
  • CSA

Frequently Asked Questions

What does continuous duty operation mean?

A continuous load is where the highest current is expected to operate continuously for three hours or more.

What is the purpose of a shaft in a motor?

A shaft is a cylindrical component extruding out from the housing and motor. It converts energy from the motor into end-use applications.

What do you mean by Class H and F insulation?

These motors have Class H or F insulation for temperature control. The Class H insulated motors can handle temperatures up to 180 degrees C and Class F can withstand a maximum temperature of 105 degrees C.

What is the difference between TENV and TEFC motors?

Totally enclosed non-ventilated (TENV) motors are designed without air openings, ideal for applications requiring frequent sanitising or cleaning. The TEFC (totally enclosed fan-cooled) motors come with an external fan to circulate outside air to the motor.
