Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. How does PoE midspan injector work?
A. Using PoE injectors, user transmits data and power through the ethernet cable between the injector & the IP camera, at the same time. The data gets transmitted from the switch into the injector, thereby feeding it to the IP camera through the ethernet cable.
Q. What is the difference between a splitter & a midspan injector?
A. The difference lies in the fact that PoE injector supplies power to the PoE equipment that receives information / data from existing non-PoE switches, whereas a splitter splits the power from the data & feeds it to a separate input of a non-PoE compliant device.
Q. Can you power a network switch with PoE?
A. Power over Ethernet (PoE) passes through switches that can operate both ways, as Powered Device (PD) or Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE). This means that the switch can be powered by PoE while providing power, simultaneously.
Q. Do all ethernet cables support PoE?
A. It depends on the category of the cable being used. Cables like CAT5E & higher support PoE on all voltages. CAT5 supports lower voltages.
Q. Can PoE run over CAT5?
A. Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows CAT5 patch leads to provide access to electric power as well as data connection to IP cameras, routers and switches.
Q. Is PoE DC or AC?
A. PoE is injected into a cable between 44 & 57 VDC.
Q. What is the difference between PoE and LAN?
A. Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology is used to implement wired Ethernet local area network (LAN).
