Product Details:

Dayton 21C004 horizontal band saw is ideal for its manual cutting precision in metalworking and fabrication applications. This horizontal band saw machine is suitable for making horizontal cuts in cast iron, bronze, aluminium, tool steel and plastic workpieces, offering efficiency & accuracy.

Uses:

Dayton 21C004 horizontal band saw is used in metalworking, machine & fabrication shops for speedy and high quality cutting of cast iron, bronze, aluminium, tool steel and plastic workpieces.

Features:

  • This Dayton horizontal band saw functions using a horizontal, toothed blade to cut through metal workpieces.
  • This blade moves in a continuous loop and is responsible for the cutting action.
  • The workpiece is securely held in place using a vice or clamping mechanism to ensure stability during the cutting process.
  • Operators can adjust the cutting speed and feed rate to suit various materials and thicknesses, providing versatility in cutting capabilities.
  • Additionally, a coolant system is often integrated to lubricate & cool the blade, preventing overheating & extending its lifespan.

Installation:

  • Band saw needs to be set on a flat, level surface.
  • Good lighting and correct power supply are required for proper operation.
  • Grounding plug should be plugged directly into a properly installed and grounded 3 prong, grounding type receptacle.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How do you lower a horizontal band saw?

A. With the feed rate set to zero, disengage the emergency stop (twist the knob counterclockwise until it pops out). Press the feed button and turn the speed knob to lower the bandsaw head. Keeping an eye on the rate of descent, lower the blade until it is just above the workpiece.

Q. What is the difference between a vertical and horizontal band saw?

A. Horizontal band saws can cut the hardest metals but vertical band saws can only be used to cut pliable, soft metals. Horizontal saws use a lot of power to cut hard metals while vertical saws use less power.

Q. How does a metal cutting band saw work?

A. Band saws are power tools that have a looped metal cutting blade tensioned over 2 pulleys. The top pulley retains and guides the blade, while the lower pulley varies the speed. Blades with higher TPI provide smoother cut edges whereas blades with lower TPI make light work of cutting through thicker metal stock.

Q. Can bandsaw blades be sharpened?

A. You should be able to sharpen your blade 2 to 3 times before you need to change your blade completely. If you're looking to sharpen your band saw blade, you can either manually sharpen the blade yourself or use a mechanical sharpening machine.

Q. What general safety instructions are recommended while operating Dayton 21C004 horizontal band saw?

A.

  • Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets or other jewelry which might get caught in moving parts of the machine.
  • Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
  • Wear safety shoes with non-slip soles.
  • Wear safety glasses complying with United States ANSI Z87.1 standards. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They are NOT safety glasses.
  • Wear a face mask or dust mask if operation is dusty.
  • Be alert and think clearly. Never operate power tools when tired, intoxicated or taking medication that causes drowsiness.
  • Keep the work area clean. Cluttered work areas invite accidents.
  • Do not use power tools in dangerous environments. Do not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Do not expose power tools to rain.
  • Work area should be properly lit.
  • Proper electrical receptacles should be available for the tool. Plug 120 volt, single phase plugs directly into properly grounded, three prong receptacles.
