Product Details:

Destaco 217-UB horizontal hold down clamp is suitable for holding down workpieces against flat surfaces in manufacturing and woodworking facilities. This hold down action clamp is ideal for applications that require working on the same workpiece repeatedly. It features a low profile design that minimises space requirement for clamp installation & usage, thereby enabling ease of operation in confined spaces. This toggle clamp features a neoprene spindle that keeps the workpiece stationary throughout the operation & prevents it from loosening / slipping. Additionally, its U shaped bar is designed for enabling quick spindle adjustment along the holding bar length. This enables the worker to adjust the toggle clamp according to the size of the workpiece. It has carbon steel construction & zinc pated finish for ensuring strength and preventing bending / breaking under heavy loads. However, this clamp is not recommended for machining applications. Destaco 217 Series clampsare also offered in straight base and open bar variants on Raptor Supplies.

Uses:

Destaco 217-UB horizontal hold down clamp is designed for woodworking, checking closures & fixtures, welding and performing assembly operations in various industrial facilities. However, this clamp is not recommended for machining tasks.

Features:

  • Destaco 217-UB horizontal hold down toggle locking clamp comes with an adjustable flat tip neoprene spindle that securely grips the workpiece in place & prevents unwanted movement of the workpiece during the operation.
  • The clamp's carbon steel construction minimises damage / wear against harsh industrial environments.
  • Its design delivers maximum hand clearance between the handle & bar for ensuring user safety.
  • Destaco horizontal hold down clamp features low profile design for ensuring ease of clamping in confined spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Does the brand offer horizontal hold down clamps in other base mounting styles?

A. Yes, in addition to this straight base U bar variant, Destaco also offers flanged base U bar (Destaco 217-U) and flanged base open bar (Destaco 217-U-L) horizontal clamps. For highly abrasive conditions, a stainless steel variant (Destaco 217-USS) is also available.

Q. What is a horizontal hold down clamp?

A. Destaco horizontal hold down clamps are designed for keeping a workpiece stationary against a flat surface / workbench, ideal for various industrial applications like metalworking and woodworking.

Q. How do horizontal hold down clamps work?

A. Some U bar style clamping arm clamps feature a flat tip bonded neoprene spindle that is manually operated using a handle / lever. This handle movement pushes the spindle against the workpiece and prevents it from moving mid operation, thereby ensuring secure clamping.

Q. What does holding capacity mean in terms of clamps?

A. The holding force or the holding capacity depicts the clamp's capability to hold down sheet metal or an equipment on assembly lines or during other manufacturing processes.

Q. Which grease is recommended for use with Destaco clamps when rebuilding?

A. For ensuring smooth operation & durability of mechanical clamps, it is recommended to use a coupling grease like Mobil XTC.

Q. What does clamping force mean?

A. Clamping force is the amount of force actually applied to a workpiece by closing & locking the clamp. It is normally less than the stated holding capacity. The actual clamping force depends on various factors, such as cylinder bore, cylinder area, spindle position (clamping arm length) and available air pressure. In most cases, the clamping force is approximately 2 to 3 times the force exerted by a pneumatic cylinder.

Q. What does the red colour of the handle of Destaco clamps mean?

A. The red coloured handles alert the user about the location of the operating handle and when he should grab it. The red colour has no additional advantage to the working of the clamps.

Q. What is the difference between a vertical & horizontal toggle clamp?

A. The difference lies in the orientation of the handle when the clamp is in the locked position. A vertical clamp handle is vertically oriented (perpendicular to the base) when in locked position, while in the case of a horizontal toggle clamp, it is horizontally oriented (parallel to the base).
