CHERNE Econ-O-Grip Plugs


Cherne Econ-O-Grip plugs are suitable for low-pressure blocking applications or for plugging open-ended pipes. These units temporarily seal or stop the fluid flow in a pipeline, and are ideal for leak testing 7 flow bypassing applications.

Working Mechanism

  • These plugs form an airtight and leak-proof seal.
  • Once installed, flush the pipe with air or water to pressurise the system and detect any problems.

What is the back pressure of these units?

These units have a back pressure of 2 psi / 5 ft. Selected models, such as 271551 & 271578, offer a back pressure of 1 psi / 2 ft.

How to install these plugs?

  • You may need to first loosen (not remove) the nut, wingnut or handle.
  • Insert the plug into the cleanout tee or pipe.
  • Tighten the nut, wingnut or handle by hand.

How do you remove Cherne Econ-O-Grip plugs?

  • Before loosening or removing the plug, always release any back pressure.
  • Remove the nut, wingnut, or handle after loosening it.
  • Take the plug out of the pipe or cleanout tee.

What are the storage instructions for these units?

  • These plugs must be stored at temperatures below 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • They must be stored in a dry place, away from sunlight or other sources of ultra-violet light & ozone.
