CHERNE Plumbing Test Ball Plugs, Multi Size

Cherne multi-size Test-Ball plugs are used for blocking flow in drain, waste & vent systems (DWVs) or back plugging during sewer air testing. They can be used to seal both round and out-of-round pipes. These Test Ball plugs are integrated with a zinc-plated steel chain and a ring handle for anc...horing the plugs & preventing them from sliding down a pipeline during testing.Read more

Working Mechanism

  • Insert the plug into the pipe at a distance at least equal to the pipe diameter to prevent protruding of the plug.
  • Connect one end of the inflation hose to the line pressure, pump or another supply pressure device and the other end to the plug inflation fitting (such as Schrader valve).
  • Block / brace the plug properly before inflating the plug to its rated inflation pressure through the inflation hose without any chance of under-inflation or over-inflation.
  • Stabilise the plug for a short moment before testing the pipe or application. After finishing the test or application, release all the back pressure & plug pressure until the plug is completely deflated.
  • Remove the blocking / bracing system before removing the plug from the pipe. Store the plug securely according to the storage instructions.

Features

  • Cherne multi-size Test-Ball plugs can handle a maximum head pressure of 40 feet (12 metre) & maximum back pressure of 17 psi (1.2 bar).
  • Their natural rubber construction offers enhanced sealing properties and excellent expansion & memory.
  • They have a Schrader valve inflator and cap with a valve core tightener & moulded-in tank valve inflation thread for inflating the plug.
  • These plugs require a 35 / 40 PSI inflation pressure using air, water or an inert gas like nitrogen.
  • They are NPT-sized with usage sizes ranging from 1.25 to 4.25 inches.

Standards and Approvals

  • ISO 9001
  • OSHA

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the points to remember before installing these plugs?

  • Select a plug having the proper size according to the pipe size, design and required backpressure handling capacity.
  • Use calibrated gauges & appropriate hoses to inflate or deflate the plugs. Monitor the inflation pressure & back pressure at least once per 4 hours for maintaining the rated plug specifications.
  • Clean the pipe of any debris or foreign substance to reduce damage to the plug. Clean the plug with a mild soap & water without using any cleaning agent.
  • Check the plug for any crack, corrosion, cut, leaks or loose fittings by inflating the plug with 1 PSIG pressure after every use.
  • A backup system with a properly designed blocking or bracing device may be chosen to restrain any plug movement due to forces behind the plug, preventing injury in case of a plug failure.

How to store these Cherne multi-size Test-Ball plugs?

These plugs must be stored in a dry place below 110 degrees F and away from sunlight & ozone or ultra-violet light sources. They can be suspended vertically or placed horizontally for storage.

What is the difference between Cherne single-size plumbing Test-Ball plugs and Cherne multi-size plumbing Test-Ball plugs?

Cherne multi-size plumbing Test-Ball plugs have similar features as Cherne's single-size Test-Ball plugs. A single noticable difference is that the multi-size Test-Ball plugs can fit multiple pipe diameters, eliminating the requirement of multiple single-size plugs for fitting different pipe sizes.
