EATON DBA Series Expulsion Fuses

Eaton DBA Series expulsion fuses are used in electrical systems to prevent damage due to overcurrent conditions. They utilise an expulsion element (boric acid) to safely remove the fuse from the circuit in the event of a faulty condition. They have a compact design that helps conserve space in electrical panels and equipment. These fuses feature an instant-acting DE-ION circuit interruption and a mechanical dropout action that provides a 180-degree air break. This mechanism allows circuit protection to higher voltage ratings, as well as, a...t the same time, offers short circuit protection for systems of moderate capacity. Read more

Working Mechanism

  • Under fault conditions, the fuse element melts and the helical spring pulls the arching rod & arc through the cylinder.
  • The upper end of the arching rod drives through a small hole in the top of the ferrule of the fuse unit and strikes the trigger-releasing ejector.
  • The trigger then operates and causes the ejector spring to force the ejector casting against the fuse assembly and causes it to swing through a 180-degree arc into a drop-out position.
  • The drop-out action provides an immediate visual indication that the circuit to which the fuse is connected has been interrupted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an air break?

The air break eliminates any possibility of carbonised fuse parts breaking down to prevent leakage or other faults in a system after it has been interrupted.

What is a replaceable-type expulsion fuse?

Replacement-type expulsion fuses can be easily replaced after they have been tripped or blown due to excessive current flow. Unlike traditional fuses that must be replaced with a new one after they have opened, expulsion fuses have a replacement element that can be easily taken out using a switch stick without having to replace the entire unit.

How to install these DBA fuse units?

  • Remove fuse fittings from the hinge casting.
  • Check the gauging distance between the centre of the guide pin in the latch housing and the bottom of the socket in the hinge casting.
  • Install the suitable fuse unit equipped with fittings in the mounting.
  • Check the operation of the latch assembly by closing and opening the fuse units.
