Working Mechanism

  • These split-phase motors convert AC power into torque to drive mechanical loads.
  • Their stator (stationary parts) has two windings (main and start) displaced at 90 degrees.
  • The main winding has a very low resistance and a high inductive reactance, while the starting winding indicates high resistance & low inductive reactance.
  • As the current in the two windings is not equal, the rotating field is not uniform. This causes lesser starting torque than the three-phase AC power motors.
  • As the motor reaches up to 70 - 80 percent of the synchronous speed, the starting winding disconnects (or splits) automatically from the main supply.
  • Now, the motor runs on the main winding only and provides enough torque to perform desired application.

Features

  • They feature lubricated ball bearings for smooth & continuous operation and reduced frictional loss.
  • Their dynamically balanced rotors reduce vibrations and noise during operation.
  • Single-phase fans, such as 5KC49TN0285X, feature automatic thermal overload for maximum heat dissipation and keeps the motor cool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of B insulation?

Motors, rated as class B insulation, withstands temperatures up to 130 degrees C. This type of insulation can be hardened with the help of adhesives to sustain a variety of temperature ranges.

What is a rolled steel frame?

Rolled steel provides strength, robustness and ductility to the motor while offering seamless operation in demanding applications.

What are resilient ring mounts?

Motors come included with resilient ring mounts to hold the motor in a suspended position and dampen vibrations during startup.
