Thermostatic Mixing Valve, Lead Free Copper Silicon Alloy

Watts thermostatic mixing valves regulate the water temperature by mixing cold and hot water simultaneously. Watts valves are used with boiler and tempered water systems for in-floor radiant heating, soil heating, emergency shower and municipal water processing applications. These thermostatic mixing valves allow the water heater to operate at higher temperatures, extending the effective system flow rate at the valve output. This feature increases productivity. Watts mixing valves are made of lead-free copper silicon alloy to facilitate excellent manufacturing capabilities for forging, casting & machining material stocks. Watts thermostatic mixing valves reduce the size / BTU requirements, providing capacity for peak system demands. These UPC-listed valves deliver a maximum flow rate of 23 gpm and are capable of withstanding temperatures & pressures up to 160 degrees F & 150 psi, respectively. Choose from a wide range of these thermostatic mixing valves, available in union, solvent weld, quick connect and compression inlet options on Raptor Supplies. Watts heavy duty float valves and adjustable pressure relief valves are also available for various commercial water supply regulation applications.

Uses

Watts thermostatic mixing valves are suitable for regulating the water temperature by mixing cold and hot water simultaneously. These mixing valves are used with boiler & tempered water systems for soil heating, in-floor radiant heating, emergency shower & municipal water processing. Thermostatic mixing valves maintain the water temperature at tight tolerances for critical applications. Watts valves respond quickly to the incoming water temperature & accurately adjust the output supply temperature. Watts thermostatic mixing valves are ideal for applications in hospitals and laboratories where precision is necessary.

Working Mechanism

Watts thermostatic mixing valves have two water inlets for hot & cold water and one mixed outlet for delivering the mixed water. Watts valves include a stem assembly, check module, plunger, thermostat, funnel & spring. Once the fluid enters the water inlet, the thermostat senses the water temperature and pushes the spring to adjust the water flow & mixing. This mechanism is sensitive to temperature changes and has a minimum response time to regulate the water temperature at the water outlet.

Features

  • Lead-free copper construction: Watts thermostatic mixing valves are made of lead-free copper silicon alloy to facilitate excellent manufacturing capabilities for forging, casting & machining material stocks.
  • High pressure tolerance: Watts valves deliver a maximum flow rate of 23 gpm and are capable of withstanding temperatures & pressures up to 160 degrees F & 150 psi, respectively.
  • Accommodates peak system demands: Watts thermostatic mixing valves reduce the size / BTU requirements for providing capacity for peak system demands.

Compatible Accessories

  • PEX Tubing: Watts thermostatic mixing valves can be used in conjunction with PEX tubing for applications requiring in-floor / wall radiant heating, supply & return piping and snow melting operations. These tubing have cross-linked polyethylene construction for efficiently conducting the heat to the surrounding media. These tubing are rated to handle high-temperature fluid up to 200 degrees F.

Standards and Approvals

  • Watts thermostatic mixing valves are manufactured in compliance with ASSE standards to ensure complete safety in commercial environments.

Installation

  • Firstly, choose a suitable place for the tempering valves. Watts thermostatic mixing valves should be accessible for adjustments and near to the point of use.
  • System must be bled out of pressure before installation.
  • Piping or copper tubing must be routed to precisely fit and align with the valve inlets and outlets.
  • Watts valves should be removed off their tailpieces, ensuring that the union nuts are over the piping / tubing before making connections to the tailpiece.
  • Piping should be flushed out once again, valves should be installed using filter gasket on cold and hot water inlets with fibre gasket on the mixed water outlet.
  • Lastly, turn ON the hot and cold water supply. If the user observes any leaks, the connections to & from the valves must be tightened to stop the leakage before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the uses of thermostatic mixing valves?

Watts thermostatic mixing valves are suitable for reducing the inline heat losses in water temperature regulation applications. These mixing valves ensure that the components of the system, such as seats, tap heads and solenoid valves, are less affected by scale formation, thereby ensuring the durability of the piping and connected equipment.

How to change the temperature of Watts thermostatic mixing valves?

To adjust the water temperature on the supply side, remove the plastic cap on the top of the mixing valve. Use a close-fitting spanner to adjust the nut. If the requirement is to increase the water temperature on the outlet, turn the nut anti-clockwise. To decrease the water temperature, rotate the nut in the clockwise direction.

What is the difference between thermostatic mixing valves and mixing valves?

Watts thermostatic mixing valves can maintain the water temperature at tight tolerances (at +/- 33.8 degrees F) for critical applications. Whereas, mixing / tempering valves can maintain the accuracy at +/- 37.4 degrees F. Additionally, Watts thermostatic mixing valves respond quickly to the incoming water temperature and adjust the output supply temperature accordingly.

Are there any types of thermostatic mixing valves?

There are two types of mixing valves, valves that actuate based on wax elements and bimetallic strips. The valves with wax elements control the intake supplies of both cold and hot water by reacting against the temperature of the water. The mechanism moves the wax element up or down, controlling the opening of the valve inlets with precision and at a minimum time frame. The valves having bimetallic strip mechanism react to the water temperature and have a quick response time. They are suitable for critical applications that demand high precision and minimum response time (+/- 1 second).

How do three-way mixing valves work?

These mixing valves intake the hot water from the boiler unit and mix it with the cool water supplied from the cooler side. They provide a circulation of the mixed water with sufficiently high & set temperature to meet the water-supply demand with accuracy at a set flow rate. The system thus operates at a set temperature and constant flow rate throughout the operation.
